The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Computer Science) was started in the year
1990 with two PG Programmes. Initially the courses were conducted with the help of faculty members
from near-by Universities and Colleges. In the year 1992, UGC approved One Professor, Two Reader, and
6 Lecturers. The Reader vacancies were filled-up in the year 1994 and Professor post was filled in the
year 1995.
Only M.Sc., Computer Science was offered during 1994 to 2001. In the year 2001 MCA was offered instead of .M.Sc.,
Computer Science. In 2002, All Inida Council For Technical Education (AICTE) approved the MCA programme for an in-take of 30.
The M.E. programme in Computer Science in Engineering with an in-take of 18 was approved by AICTE in the year 2003. Post-graduate
scholarship of Rs.5,000/- was given to all the GATE scholars, and department has distributed more than Ten Lakhs as PG Scholarship.
Mphil programme was started in the year 1996. manonmaniam Sundaranar University was the first University in Tamil Nadu to offer regular
M.Phil Programme in Computer Science. From 2001onwards the Department is offering Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering . As the
Department was offering Engineering programmes and all the faculty members are with Engineering qualifications, from 2002 onwards the
Department name was changed to Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
With the present faculty strength of 10 (One Professor, Two Readers and Seven Lecturers), the Department is offering MCA, M.E., M.Phil.,
and Ph.D., .Two of our full-time research scholars are selected for UGC Research Fellowshgip in Engineering. UGC also sanctioned
Two Research Fellowship for Meritorious candidates in Sciences. In July 2008, UGC sanctioned and released a grant of Rs.10,00,000/-
for increasing the infrastructure facilities of the department. In the last three years, the Department has produced 5 Ph.D., and more
than 25 M.Phil Scholars. Twenty five research papers were published in Inter-National and National Journals and more than 75 papers
were published in the proceedings of National and Inter National Conferences. Every year the Department is conducting National Conferences,
Workshops, Seminars and Special Lecturers for the benefit of Faculty and Research Scholars of the nearby Institutions.
