  The quality and efficiency of education, to a large extent, depend upon the quality of teachers. Teachers are keys to optimum development of human resources. A systematic teacher education programme, both pre-service and in-service is essential for qualitative improvement in education. A new body of knowledge innovations in instructional designs and latest communication technology is available today. In view of this scenario and also to meet the country’s future needs of not only trained but also untrained teachers, we have to design effective teacher education programme to motivate and acquire various skills.

 The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is offering B.Ed Degree course through distance mode from the Academic Year 2009-2010 for teachers who are working in the schools for at least two years. The Government of Tamil Nadu and Distance Education Council, New Delhi, have granted no objection to start this programme. Faculty members have been appointed and five regular B.Ed Colleges have been identified as study Centers for this programme . The programme will be conducted as per the norms and standards of National Council for Teacher Education.
